Well, lets put it this way...there's a big giant black elephant dementor in the room, wearing a sign that says fandom whipping post and firmly standing on a pie chart of doom, blocking my view of Leaky and the world of Harry Potter. To ignore or not is the question...
And the postman made it so, as thus
On the fifth day, it was so delivered.....
44 is oddly a number on mind this month *le sigh* lol, and as such, here are 44 things I am grateful for
You can read this article from The Telegraph here, which contains a link to the exact comments she made in an interview in France. While this may later be proven to be taken out of context or something, this seemed to have come from a fairly reliable source, so for the time being, I believe the Telegraph to be reporting accurately
Now, I fully believe she has the right to say and think as she wants, but I could scarcely believe my eyes. I am of course fully cognizant that there are the many conspiracy theories out there regarding 9/11 in one form or another, but this was so blunt and coming from one who frankly I was not expecting too (stereotypical I admit but this one just came out of left field). My opinion is that I find her claims and beliefs to be based on ignorance and are offensive and insulting to those who died in the towers and flight 93. *full disclosure: My father was an electrical engineer who worked on systems for the Gemini and Apollo missions which truly happened, and I never discuss working during the 9/11 attacks and the aftermath*
While I do not know how others will react to her comments, I wondered on the larger points here: Should we pay any attention at all to beliefs, opinions endorsements of celebrities? The ONLY reason of course this got any attention (including mine) is that she is a recent Oscar winner, and a new media darling. The other people who feel this way are by in large given very little press play or any weight given to their claims (aside from the random documentary or on various forums)I am NOT referring to 9/11 commission reports, nor mocking these people, but the fact of the matter is rarely do most of these bodies or groups make front page news as this story did.
The bigger question to me was then this-will this take away from her wonderful performance in La Vie en Rose? I have no doubt her agents, and most esp the studio execs are scrambling for damage control as they always do in these situations, but what about the general movie fan? Does this take away from how you regard her work? will you go see her future works? Make no mistake its not just Marion Cotillard, but there are many many celebs who do and say things that may not be viewed favorably by the public (Mel Gibson is one recent example)and yet make "triumphant returns" So what say you?

THANK YOU J.K. ROWLING
I LOVE HUFFLEPUFF
I LOVE THE HARRY POTTER SERIES
I LOVE MY TRUE FRIENDS and the real Lolos who are there thick and thin *unbreakable*
I LOVE the LEAKY CAULDRON and the great staff, readers, and awesome people who are part of our extended Leaky family
I LOVE YOU JO ROWLING!!!!!
I know they say this attachment by the cat will pass once she turns a year old or so, but oy!
As such, I have been listening to a lot of music, which is always a solace at anytime for me.Plus I am hugely frustrated by all the negativity of late and music always soothes things lol, so I've been looking at iTunes to see what is hot these days, and was catching up on all those goofy 'celeb' playlists. Maybe it's that I'm longing for spring and wanting something new, (or more likely dreading the upcoming birthday and seeking more of an escape than normal lol), but the way I genuinely see things, I think everyone is a 'celeb' (I surely do NOT want to be thought of as such!) and should have their lists out there. Thus, l was wondering what some of my friends were currently listening to, and if you are so inclined, please jot down the ten or so songs that are hitting the tops of your current play lists please.
oh yes
Also as Leaky Con is now FINALLY announced, I can squee and cheerlead about this cool event. The decision to have a con of our own is not anti any other con but borne out of a desire for our own gathering. It WILL have the things other cons have, academics will not be forsaken in the slightest, but I think this will have added things that perhaps are not as prevalent in some previous events; it will just a weekend of Harry Potter fans gathering Leaky style, and I really truly hope people can consider please joining us next year in Boston!!
As such, as an annoying princess of Puff as I am, I really do need a proper tiara for this (and for Terminus for that matter!) I did own one, as witnessed in the latest of the PotterCast tour videos. However the tiara got destroyed on the way home-IM SORRY!!! :( I have to say that coupled with the past weeks shows and John's antics, I was reminded again how much we really do talk about House elves and Helga. I swear I remember rambling more on how Helga and the elves could have been set free in the woods following the berries ala Hansel & Gretel (I think Helga secretly set some of the elves free during times of crisis), but I think it got cut down from the video, or more likely my memory is really going (perhaps residual effects from my past hippie lifestyle ahem) and YES Winky later totally embraced a Hippie lifestyle in the years following the loss of the love of her life,Dobby (I envisioned her kinda like the dude from The big Lebowski ;) )
Anyway, this was really a fun couple of days for us -Northern California was simply stunning (Napa Valley area later was waayaay gorgeous) Oregon was wonderful, the people were aces, and I had such fun, but that drive up 5 I think with all the dang curves was worse than any Gringott ride I am convinced.
Now if I can just find a good gold and black sparkly tiara I will be set!
Gooo Hufflepuff!
Why play Lego StarWars, The Complete Saga of course!
Bonus: Lucas Arts site with Demo
It is a rather sad commentary I suppose, as this is my son's game, but playing this on the incredible PS3 really is a huge amount of fun and Ive been playing this quite a lot lately lol. You can journey thru the entire Star Wars saga, all six movies and the episodes in them (the music is excellent too) ...and for some peculiar reason I keep playing as Wicket whenever possible. I am of the firm belief that Ewoks are the Hufflepuffs of the Jedi world.
Btw, I know I've yammered about this before but I still am awaiting a reply from both Lego and WB where I wrote, imploring them to create LEGO Harry Potter, the complete Magical Saga. While I openly adore the EA HP games, I honestly believe a moving Lego PS/XBOX/DS game would be hugely fun and very popular. (and yes I know there was that early Lego HP creator thing which was way lame and the technology is vastly improved since then that would enable this to be so so much better)
I know there are lots of people out there (read older teens/adults) who have a secret stash of at least one HP Lego, so imagine if you will how much fun it could be to have say DADA classes and exploding pieces of Legos, or the Room of Requirement only blasting little deatheater clone troopers hee! and woah, ... imagine the Battle of Hogwarts! Exploding spiders, battling the giant bosses, playing as say Neville, his grandmother woot, or perhaps say Moldy or Draco, or MOLLY then she gets to BLAST BELLA in a billion black and white lego pieces (no blood much better ;D)! I totally would play as the Venemous Tentacula boss master or even better, I volunteer to model for the Snargaluff Pod Squad, who then lob the pods from the rafters in the Great Hall! Who is with me?
6: as in Oceanic Six. SQUEE for the return of LOST! zomg mercy was granted as there was some Sawyer hotness to save my wretched existence here in the frozen tundra. Word on the return of Dead Charlie, looking so fine (and kudos those who quipped Death does become him) My Hufflepuff brother Hurley (Jorge) was brilliant and totally rose to the occasion in a wonderful episode (that was great moment btwn sawyer and Hurley too about mourning Charlie before the equally awesome migrating house of spooky Jacob.) Lost is back baby, bring on next week!
1: as in one very large piece of the special Hogwarts cake made by Duff, Ace of Cakes genius for the "Order of the Phoenix" LA premiere afterparty. While I was joking of course about John eating the astronomy tower, I do remember him dragging me over to meet Duff which was awesome (and am still so happy about getting to interview him for PotterCast Rox!) I then proceeded to have a piece of the cake, which if I remember correctly, was a large portion of the north shore of lake Hogwarts lol. I remember distinctly it was the lake because I was worried about having blue teeth afterwards, lol but by that point I was well into the fifth (or possibly seventh) cosmo plus several shots of various firewhiskeys (I hold Heidi8 entirely to blame for that) and really didnt much care (I have determined too that given all the top notch catered food and enormous sums of top shelf booze, plus the prizes and decorations, the cost of that shindig had to be more than the entire cost of my house !) BTW, I should have properly blogged about this but other key highlights despite four incredible conversations with David Yates, Michael Goldenberg David Barron and David Heyman who actually knew who the hell I was!, the personal highlight was talking with some WB people and most especially meeting in person finally Chris Rankin-uber squee moment. While I didnt get to talk to Dan (he waved at me though from across the main hall lol) nor Emma (too busy avoiding the MN guys heee!)I did get to meet Masi Oka from Heros, and chatted with Jeff Foxworthy while in line to get more Wolfgang puck pizza, as well as chatting with Robert Pattinson (who I admit, is a damm fine Hufflepuff). I also played a game with Eva LaRue from General Hospital (and won a OotP headscarf), got my butt kicked playing the OotP Wii game with the child of a WB exec, and chatted with Rupert (one of several times which was such fun) about the replica Umbridge's mewing kitten plate in the bathroom. There is just something fundamentally disturbing about having to go pee with a cat squawking at you from the bathroom stall lol.
Seriously, Steven Spielberg is one of the great filmmakers of all time, and while he did make ET, Close Encounters, Indy movies etc, those who doubt he understands drama and seriousness need to go revisit Schindler's List, The Color Purple and even moments in Saving Private Ryan. While I know full well the debacle over Haley Joel Osment etc, I do doubt he would take this on (a bit busy finishing up Indy at the moment I think, plus a ton of films hes exec producing)However, if he DID accept, I have faith he would bring a faithful execution of the magical world established already (though bleh I fear we are stuck with Kloves forever woe so it really wont matter on the director-and Yes, I still hold Kloves responsible for the disasterous characterization of Ron to this point, esp the notorious line switch in POA)
Speaking of flying, I hired a new assistant editor to help me at Leaky...
Anyway, Im on the return trip to Godric's Hollow, and I cant help of course but notice the irony of how on the night that marks what history celebrates as a most glorious birth and joy to the world, there is nothing in this chapter but an encounter with the dead, death and evil.
*wOOt. I finally got over the flu Ive had for about 3 weeks it seemed. I was so sick when we did the Sorcerer's Stone commentary (at 1 am no less) wrapped in two blankets-meh.
*wOOt.... New Tudors previews up on Showtime.com
*wOOt.... Jason Isaacs (LOVE YOU) got NOMINATED for a Golden Globe-about time!
*wOOt. The year in review links are now finally pulled. *sings the Leaky Cauldron, thats where the news leaks out, cause there's a lot of NEWS ;)*
lets see...what else...oh yes...
AS this is a holiday week here in the US and we are supposed to reflect on what we are thankful for and I have thought about the many people and things in my life that bring me such joy.I am indeed a lucky person and am most grateful. I have also been thinking about the little things that give us comfort and joy each and every day, things like books.
Warning: Essay length piece below
(Note to PotterCast listeners especially: if you are hoping for another DVD commentary soon, I'm flat out saying now its delayed till I get some sort of computer equipment that will play a DVD without freezing and shutting down my computer a third of the way in!meh meh meh)
So the question is: Mac or PC?
Also, if you have owned both, would you buy a Mac again?
HELP and all opinions are most welcome please!
Poll #1085345 Mac or PC?
Open to: All, results viewable to: All
If you have owned/worked on both a Mac and PC, which do you prefer?
If you own a Mac, do you also have a Windows OS on it just in case?
What a banner couple of weeks for us at Leaky, remarkable because as you know, there has been nothing going on that would get people fired up and owling Leaky and pelting us with incredible comments...
/sarcasm....
*sigh*
Well lookie here! My daily word of the day email arrived (yes I know, it's very geekishly cool thing I get from dictionarydotcom-and yes Im that big of a dork to read it each day) and lo and behold it's
TERMINUS
terminus \TUR-muh-nuhs\, noun:
1. The finishing point; the end.
2. A boundary; a border; a limit.
3. A post or stone marking a boundary.
4. Either end of a railroad or other transportation line; also, the station house, town, or city at that place.
Well, I have made no secret of my personal struggles regarding whether or not to continue with this fandom, but there is still Terminus the conference to focus on, and I have firmly decided not to bail before that (besides the meeting with Jo helped reinforce why the heck I joined this fandom in the first place. Plus, I was wearing that gold Noble Collection Hufflepuff pin that Melissa gave me for Christmas two years ago, and not only did Jo point at that when she asked me WHY ALL THE HUFFLEPUFF? LMAO but also she hugged me three times and that pin touched her, so as far as I'm concerned, I now have a JOCRUX that is indestructible :))) )
BTW for those that have registered and been sorted, Terminus has House sites here on LiveJournal, so be sure to check out boo-boo's I mean Brian's house (and even tho he's a total Slytherin, I really do think hes flat out adorable, and a genuinely nice and very lovely guy), the house of BRUBU, the House of Kohilo, rockin Joanna's House of Matanuska
and my personal favorite, PAMPERO HOUSE
Speaking of the fabo Pamperos, just in time for some excellent choices for gift giving this holiday, Terminus has also opened up a Cafepress shop for merchandise bearing the name of all the different houses, as well as for Terminus and also Aeolian University...and squee... the messenger bag is HAPPY YELLOW Color... what a great Hufflepuffy Happy Squeeful choice :)))))
Well naturally with all these thoughts of ghosts on my brain this week of Halloween, I am forced to post yet another poll ... :)
Ps I do believe in ghosts, have seen one (y'all need to go to NOLA and Savannah, they exist in abundance there and all ghosts are not just floating about in Scotland, but I remain hopeful I will see one there when I go to Scotland someday! )

Despite the nonstop rain, being overwhelmed by work, not to mention the horrible haircut and wretched photos that have made me want to move to a remote section of perhaps Bolivia or somewhere, I have to say this day was a good day. Nothing great happened to me personally, but today was special. Today a very lovely person, a true lolo sister, a would be daughter, a tireless colleague at the Leaky Cauldron, and keeper of an unbreakable vow, made another and much much much more lovely and wonderful vow today, as my dear friend Kimmy has now married the man she loves. I am so very happy for her!!!
